Pore-network modeling of colloid transport and retention considering surface deposition, hydrodynamic bridging, and straining

چکیده
Colloid transport and retention in porous media is a common phenomenon nature. However, mechanisms are not fully revealed based on macroscale experimental observations. The pore-network model (PNM) an effective method to account for the pore structure of medium provides direct connection between pore-scale phenomenon. In this study, PNMs with cylindrical throats spherical bodies used upscale water flow colloid from pore- macro-scales, taking into consideration surface deposition, hydrodynamic bridging, straining. Numerical experiments were conducted investigate effect size, initial concentration, velocity behavior. Results show that bridging straining produce hyper-exponential profiles, whereas deposition due nanoscale roughness charge heterogeneity yields exponential or uniform profiles. Hydrodynamic will happen when concentration lower than some threshold value (rp ≤ 500 nm, C0 7.1 × 1014 Nc/m3, U0 0.1 m/d under conditions study). relative importance comparison increases increase velocity. PNM useful tool discriminate different predict behavior media.

Modeling colloid attachment, straining, and exclusion in saturated porous media.
A conceptual model for colloid transport is developed that accounts for colloid attachment straining, and exclusion. Colloid attachment and detachment is modeled using first-order rate expressions, whereas straining is described using an irreversible first-order straining term that is depth dependent. Exclusion is modeled by adjusting transport parameters for colloid-accessible pore space. Fitt...

Colloids may have an important role in regulating the structure and function of groundwater ecosystems, and may influence the migration of low solubility contaminants in groundwater. There is, however, a degree of uncertainty about how colloids behave under the variable hydrogeochemical and hydrodynamic conditions that occur during managed aquifer recharge. We used an online monitoring system t...
متن کاملA stochastic model for colloid transport and deposition.
Profiles of retained colloids in porous media have frequently been observed to be hyper-exponential or non-monotonic with transport depth under unfavorable attachment conditions, whereas filtration theory predicts an exponential profile. In this work we present a stochastic model for colloid transport and deposition that allows various hypotheses for such deviations to be tested. The model is b...
